The Story Behind Journey

Journey was my second release, but in many ways, it was the true beginning of Meniscus Reboot. It was the first song that fully embodied the ideas I wanted that project to explore: experimentation, movement, and the willingness to embrace the unknown.

I still remember listening to Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger and asking myself a simple question: What if I pushed my music in a completely different direction? That question eventually became Journey.

From the very beginning, Meniscus Reboot was an attempt to play with arrangement and challenge my own expectations of what a song could be. I wanted to create something that felt unpredictable—something that would surprise both me and the listener. I wanted to move away from familiar structures and embrace uncertainty.

That's exactly why I called the song Journey.

To me, a journey is defined by uncertainty. When you set out on a path, you don't know what lies ahead. There will be victories and setbacks, moments of excitement and moments of doubt. The only thing you know for certain is that the road will keep unfolding in front of you.

I wanted the song to capture that feeling.

If the first song you ever heard from me was Ruka, and then you listened to Journey, your reaction might well be, "What's going on?" The two songs are worlds apart. Journey sounds different because it was born from a completely different mindset—one that embraced change rather than certainty.

The song invites you into the unknown. It keeps moving forward, constantly asking what comes next, much like life itself.

That same idea appears in the Spotify canvas. The image is simple: a lone figure walking forward through a synthwave-inspired world. For me, that visual captures the essence of the song perfectly. It represents movement, curiosity, and the courage to keep taking steps even when you have no idea where the road will lead.

When I wrote Journey, I was at the very beginning of my recovery from my injury. Everything felt uncertain. I didn't know how long the healing process would take, when I would return to basketball, or what the future would look like. But despite all those questions, there was one thing I knew: I had to keep moving.

That is what Journey is really about.

It's about continuing forward regardless of what happens. It's about accepting change, facing uncertainty, and remaining as hopeful as possible, even when the destination feels impossibly far away.

So often, we're obsessed with reaching the finish line. We focus so much on the destination that we forget to appreciate everything that happens along the way—the struggles, the lessons, the people we meet, and the experiences that shape us.

But the truth is that the journey is just as important as the destination.

And that's what Journey is about: everything that happens on the road between where we are and where we hope to be.
